William Brooks Dunn, age 87, of Malone, FL, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, AL.
William was born on May 28, 1937 in Jackson, Ohio, to the late Foster and Thelma Petry Dunn. He grew up in Jackson County with his three brothers, Raymond "Sonny", Merrill Dean and Renaldo "Ronnie" where the four of them would run the town. After graduating, William proudly served in the Air Force as a Cryptographer for 4 years. Upon his return, he found the love of his life, Monna Denney, while attending the University of Rio Grande in Gallipolis, Ohio. After reaching his goal of obtaining his master's degree in education, he fell in love with teaching and the pursuit of knowledge. William went on to serve as a school administrator and educator in various capacities in Ohio until he and Monna moved to Florida in 2004. He continued to teach, until finally settling down in Malone, Florida and retiring at the age of 79. William loved nothing more than his family and his dogs. He was impactful in the lives of many he came into contact with and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Monna Dunn; his parents, and two brothers, Merril D. Dunn and Renaldo “Ronnie” Dunn.
William is survived by his son, Scott Dunn and wife, Mia; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Colley and husband, Brandon, Mackenzie Dunn and wife, Lana, Rachel Dunn, and Donlee VanGinneken and husband, Karl; seven great grandchildren, Jackson, Quinn, Myla, Zoey, Finnick, Malachi and Willow; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
William will be laid to rest in Fairmount Cemetery in Jackson, OH. Service details will be announced at a later date. Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
