Warren Lee Smith

Warren Lee Smith, age 71, of Compass Lake, FL, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 25, 2022.  

A native of the Compass Lake and Alford area, Warren and his twin sister Wanda were born September 6, 1951.  Warren and Wanda were adopted by the late John Perry (J.P.) and Marie (Tharpe) Smith, of Alford shortly after their births.  Warren was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed hanging out with his friends and former brother-in-law, Thomas “Woodpecker” Woods before his death in 2020.  Warren served his country with honor in the U.S. Army, deploying to South Korea in 1971 and returning home in 1973 where he was honorably discharged for his service.  Warren was employed by Gulf Power for many years working at the Sneads and Southport, FL locations.  He later became a truck driver and eventually, a Master Mechanic for Bay County before his retirement in 2011.

He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, and sisters, Wanda Mayo and Elaine Ward.

Warren is survived by his children, Jennifer (Angelo) Bernier of Marianna, Amanda Griffith of Panama City, and Jonathan (Jennifer) Smith of Panama City Beach.  He is also survived by two loving nieces, Tina (Steve) Bass of Wewahitchka, Susan Woods of Compass Lake, and one nephew, Kevin (Roxanne) Woods of Compass Lake; grandchildren, Keegan and Landen Bernier, Jullian Gallawa, Greyson Griffith, and Autumn Smith; great nieces and nephews Kristen Davis, Alyssa Bass, Levi (Rachel) Davis, Alexis Bass, Seth Woods, Breanna Woods, and Kaylee Woods.

Graveside services will be held for Warren on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 2 p.m. CST at the Woods-Freeman Cemetery, 57 Hayfield Lane, Alford, FL 32420. Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is directing.
