Vernell Edenfield Baxley, a cherished matriarch and lifelong resident of Jackson County, Florida, passed away peacefully in her home on March 31, 2025.
Born on October 11, 1940, Vernell's vibrant spirit and kind heart touched all those around her throughout her 84 years of life. Vernell attended Grand Ridge High School before she was employed with the Warner Brothers Sewing Factory, where she worked for 13 years and was respected for her skilled work as a sewing machine operator. In addition to her professional role, she played an integral part in the success of the family business, Baxley Battery Company, by assisting her husband with dispatching duties. Vernell was also known to be Alan Jackson’s number one fan and could be found listening to his music any chance she got.
Her dedication to her family and her faith was evident in all aspects of her life. Vernell was a devout member of Pleasant Hill Church, where she grew in her walk with Jesus Christ and fellowshipped with her community.
Vernell's warmth extended far beyond her work as she poured her love into her family. As a dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother, she thrived on creating memories that would endure for generations. Her love of spending time with her grandkids formed the cornerstone of her life, proving that the simplest moments often hold the greatest significance.
The Baxley family matriarch was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sherman Baxley; her daughter, Debbie Croft; her brother, Eugene Edenfield; and her grandsons, Trevor Baxley and Jermarre Jones.
Vernell's legacy continues on through her sons, Ricky Baxley and wife, Cheryl of Cypress, FL, and Tony Baxley and wife, Tracy of Marianna; her daughter, Connie Jones and husband, Vince of Grand Ridge; her sister, Arjell Taylor Jackson of Lynn Haven; her cherished grandchildren, Michael, Chad, Blake, Devan, Logan, Jarrot, and Joshua; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Brookelyn, Madison, Guage, Ryker, Ranger, Aurora, Jase, Beverly and Harrison along with a special niece, Cecilia.
