Tommie Cumbaa was born in Oconee, GA on October 6, 1931 to Charlie Mary Hodges Thompkins and William O. Thompkins. Tommie was a graduate of Jackson County Adult Education and the University of West Florida with a degree in Elementary Education. She retired in 1991 from Cottondale Elementary School. Tommie was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Cottondale since 1963. She loves her church family and served on many committees for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, J.D Cumbaa of Cottondale; her parents, one sister, Mary Jo Register Baxley; brothers in law, Harry Register, Sr. and David Baxley; and one nephew, Harry Register Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Gina Sheppard (Dr. Lee) of Forsyth, Georgia; grandchildren, Matthew (Dolia) of Maryland and Micah Sheppard and Megan Sheppard of Forsyth, Georgia; along with many special nieces and nephews, she loved them all.
A graveside service will be held at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Cottondale, Florida at 10 A.M., Saturday, August 17, 2024 with Dr. Lee Sheppard officiating.
The family has requested no flowers. Memorial contributions can be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church in Tommie’s honor.
