Steve “Spanky” Hernandez, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the Southeast Health Medical Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.
Steve was born on October 25, 1986 in Culver City, California to Edgardo and Sonia (Castillo) Hernandez. He grew up in California and attended grade school at San Gabriel Avenue Elementary in South Gate, CA. The family then moved to Grand Island, NE and then to Norfolk, NE. He graduated from Norfolk Senior High in 2004 and after high school, Steve lived in Norfolk and worked at MP Global and AWG. Steve enjoyed fishing, working on car sound systems, eating good food, watching the Raiders, L.A. Lakers, and L.A. Dodgers, was full of laughter, and loved spending time with his family (especially his mom) and friends. He was known as a hero to his family and helping people with a smile on his face.
Survivors include his mother, Sonia Castillo; sister, Jessica (Rafael) Lua; nephew, Freddy Alvarez (Jazmine Lopez) and their children, Antonio and Ximena; niece, Melanie Alvarez (Dezmond Jones) and their children, Dahlia and Coraline; and nephews, Aaron Alvarez and Noah Hernandez all of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edgardo Hernandez; brother, Christian Hernandez, and both paternal grandparents and maternal grandparents.
Steve will be laid to rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk, NE. Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
