Obituary

Sandra Gayle Peacock Daffin passed peacefully in her sleep on Thursday morning, April 21,2022 after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Sandra was born on December 1, 1940 in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she spent her younger years, and in Panama City and Graceville before graduating from Marianna High School in 1959.  She attended Chipola College and graduated from Huntingdon College in Montgomery with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1963.  She began teaching in Jonesboro, Georgia but soon returned to Jackson County, Florida where she taught for over 20 years in Marianna and Malone.   

She loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren and also loved her Mexico Beach years where her favorite pastime was shelling on Crooked Island and St. Joseph’s Point. She also loved spending time with the Marianna community that spent so much time there.  

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby Lord Peacock and Robert Daniel Peacock; stepfather, Cecil Otho Peacock; brother, Terrence Powell Peacock; and former husband, Ralph Hunter Daffin Jr. 

She is survived by her three children, Katherine Daffin Smith (Tom) of Atlanta, Ralph Hunter Daffin, III (Patrick) of Orlando,  and Lee McFarlin Daffin (Marie) of Marianna; seven grandchildren, Caroline Smith of Denver, Elizabeth and Clayton Smith of Atlanta, Grace Daffin of Marianna, Savanna Castaneda of Tallahassee, Emma and Karina Castaneda of Marianna.    

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 22nd, 2022 from 5:00pm-7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church of Marianna, Florida.  

A Funeral service will be held the following day, Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Raymond Guterman officiating and Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing. 

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jackson Hospital and Emerald Coast Hospice.  In addition, to the Marianna community, family and friends—we will be forever grateful for your love, support and prayers along with your visits, smiles, stories, and meals.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Partners for Pets in Marianna, Florida.
