Sadie Lee Obituary

Sadie McCroan Lee, age 87, passed away on January 31st, 2025, in Henderson, Nevada.

Sadie was born on August 27th, 1937, in Cypress, Florida, to the late Broward and Laura McCroan. She grew up alongside her seven siblings, sharing the joys and challenges of rural life. Sadie graduated Salutatorian of her class from Grand Ridge High School in 1955. Her academic achievements were a testament to her intelligence and strong work ethic, qualities that would guide her throughout her life.

On April 11th, 1959, Sadie married her devoted husband of 50 years, James Vonnie Lee. Their unwavering commitment to one another laid a strong foundation for the countless memories and enormous love they shared. That love expanded over time, and was poured into the family they built and raised together; their family was their ultimate pride and joy. Sadie and James lived in several communities throughout the years, including Jacksonville, Florida, and Morrow, Georgia. They planted their deepest roots in Callahan, Florida, where they lived for many years together until James’ death in 2008. Sadie continued to call Callahan home until moving to Nevada in October 2023.

Aside from her intelligence and selfless nature, Sadie will be remembered by many for her remarkable talents. She was an excellent cook, with a special emphasis on baking, as well as a superb seamstress. She was also known to manage quite the garden, where she grew a vast amount of vegetables that she shared with all her family, friends, and neighbors. Sadie’s home was a place of warmth and welcome, where the aroma of her cooking would draw you in, and the comfort of her presence would make you stay. Her hands were rarely still, as she created beautiful garments and delicious treats for her loved ones.

An avid sports fan, Sadie's enthusiasm for the games was infectious. Whether it was cheering from the stands, or shouting encouragement from her living room, she was a steadfast supporter of her favorite teams and athletes.

Although Sadie will be deeply missed, her legacy and influence will be carried on by her loving family for generations to come. Sadie is survived by her daughters, Pamela England (Daniel) of Henderson, Nevada, and Janet Redden of Cartersville, Georgia; her brother, Leo McCroan; and sister, Elizabeth Mercer, both of Cypress, Florida; three grandchildren, Christian Lee Fernandez (Maria), Christina Renee Bryant (Kente), and Amanda Leigh Hudson (Tommy); and her adored great-grandchildren, Kerrigan Hudson, Stanton Hudson, William Fernandez, Alexander Fernandez, and Madeleine Fernandez. Numerous nieces and nephews will also hold dear memories of their beloved Aunt Sadie.

Preceding Sadie in death, in addition to her beloved husband, were both of her parents; her brothers, Edward, Clarence, James-Robert, and David Earl McCroan; and her sister, Jeanette Dockins.

Sadie’s journey through life will stand as a testament to the strength of her love for her family, and abiding faith in God. As we bid Sadie farewell, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared, and with joy in the knowledge we shall meet again in Heaven. We are grateful for the countless ways she enriched our lives. Those enrichments will continue to inspire all who knew her.
