Robert Whitmore

Robert G. “Whit” Whitmore passed away November 5, 2022 at his home in Marianna, FL. Bob lived in the Portland, ME area for most of his life until later moving to Marianna, FL in 2016 to be near his children and their families. 

Bob was born in Portland, ME on December 8, 1957 to the late Herbert J. Whitmore and Helen G. Stanhope Whitmore. He grew up attending Portland area schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1975. Bob has made many lifelong friends from the neighborhood and his school years. 

Bob began working in the auto painting business following his graduation from high school. He worked for Team Collision in Portland, ME and Hewitt’s Auto Body and Collision in Yarmouth, ME for 26 years. Bob earned a well-respected reputation as a painter of cars in his employment and for specialty painting on restored vehicles at the request of the owners. Most interesting to his family, he was sought after for painting guitars for musicians in the Portland, ME area!

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Herbert J. Whitmore and Helen G. Stanhope Whitmore of Portland, ME; his grandson, River Standland of Greenwood, FL; his niece, Amy Lynn Whitmore of Hampton, NJ; and his brother-in-law, Chris A. Murphy of Portland, ME.

He will be dearly missed by his children, Robert B. Whitmore and wife Melody of Westlake, OH; Jonathon C. Whitmore of Marianna, FL; Nicole M. Standland and husband J. Travis; his grandchildren, Trenton Whitmore of Westlake, OH; Cue Wood, Thatcher Wood, and Anna Standland all of Greenwood, Fl. He will be remembered by his brothers, Paul Whitmore and wife Karen of Hampton, NH; Gary Whitmore of South Portland, ME; his sister, Elaine Edwards and husband Larry; Janice and Murphy; and Donna Towle and husband Rick, all of Portland, ME. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him tremendously. 

No services are planned at this time. Memorialization will be by cremation with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
