Ramona McArthur, of Malone, FL, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, January 24, 2025 at the age of 90.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jimmy Roe McArthur and an infant son, Steven Rex McArthur.
Ramona was born on July 26, 1934 to Porter and Helen Turner. She was a graduate of Malone High School and married her high school sweetheart in 1952. After having three children, she pursued a degree in education, ultimately receiving a Master of Science in Education. She began her career in teaching in 1971 at Hope School in Marianna, Florida and retired after 25 years. She took pride in her chosen profession and was deeply loved by her students.
Ramona was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she served as the church pianist for decades. She loved her time with family, especially preparing Sunday lunches. Ramona was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her two sons, David McArthur (Jacquelyn) of Grand Ridge and Larry McArthur (Pamela) of Malone; one daughter, Susan Mathis (Chuck) of Marianna; sister, Betty Williams of Malone; seven grandchildren, Joanna Padgett (Lee) of Abbeville, AL, Jennifer McArthur of Dothan, AL, Jim McArthur (Damara) of Malone, Jessica Thomas (Austin) of Marianna, Shelby Mathis of Marianna, Jordan Mathis of Malone and Noah McArthur of Grand Ridge; great grand-children, Hunter and Trevor Padgett, Atlynn, Cassidy and Ellie Rose McArthur, Cooper Thomas, Beau, Turner and Charlotte Thomas; along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, January 27, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church (6045 Highway 2, Bascom, FL 32423) with Reverends James Newell and Steven Welch officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Those serving as pallbearers will be: Jim McArthur, Austin Thomas, Jordan Mathis, Hunter Padgett, Noah McArthur and Trevor Padgett.
