Mavis J. Ganey, age 78, of Cottondale, FL, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Southeast Health in Dothan, AL.
Mavis was born June 11, 1944 in Cottondale, FL, where she was a lifelong resident. For 25 years, Mavis worked at Registers Meat Company in Cottondale as well as 23 years at the Kountry Candy Store in Steel City. She was of the Pentecostal Faith and was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Cottondale for the last four years. Mavis was well known for her country cooking, including her famous chicken and dressing. She loved to bring her family and friends together with home cooked meals. She also enjoyed fishing, karaoke, and taking care of her garden.
She was predeceased by her parents, William Clinton Jackson and Virgie Blair Jackson; her siblings, Houston, Edward, Cleo, Millie, Doris, Vicie, Myrtle, and Dorothy.
Mavis is survived by her children, Sylvia White (Joe), James White (Laurel), Chris Yon (Brenda), Brenda Davis, and Tommy Davis (Dwanna) all of Cottondale, FL; grandchildren, Landi, Kristie, JT, Emilee, Shawn, Cassey, Caleigh, Briana and Bowen; special nephew, Rex Jackson and wife, Lynn of Chipley; along with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be 11a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Cornerstone Fellowship Church with Reverend Mark Blaylock officiating. Interment will follow in Cottondale Baptist Church Cemetery with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Cornerstone Fellowship Church.
