Marilyn K. Sweeney

Marilyn K. Sweeney, age 77, of Marianna, FL, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Jackson Hospital.

Marilyn was born on June 30, 1946 in Bloomsburg, PA, to the late Gerald Knouse and Marian Black. She attended college at Florida State University where she met the love of her life, George, in 1966. They married the following year in 1967. Together, George and Marilyn created a beautiful life over the past 56 years. Marilyn was a teacher for the Jackson County School System for over 30 years. She impacted the lives of not only her students but her family and friends as well. She was involved in our community as a member of the Marianna Women’s Club and the Canasta Club. She was a lifetime member of the FSU Alumni Association and the Emeriti Alumni Society. Marilyn has always enjoyed watching Florida State Football as well. She liked to spend her free time with her family and crafting of any sort. Marilyn was a special wife, mother, teacher, and friend to many and will be deeply missed by those who love her.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents and her aunt, Bertie Voss.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, George Sweeney of Marianna, FL and her daughter, Jennifer Sweeney of Tallahassee, FL.

Funeral Services will be 11 A.M., Friday, July 28, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in Marianna, FL with Reverend Dr. Nathan Attwood and Pastor Brian Gilliland officiating. Marianna Chapel Funeral Home will be directing.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in the Wesley Center at First United Methodist Church in Marianna, FL.
