Margaret Smith Pagels

Margaret S. Pagels, age 85, of Marianna, FL, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at her residence. 

Margaret was born on March 11, 1937 in Marianna, FL, and was a lifelong resident. After graduating Marianna High School in 1955, she began working at State Farm. Margaret was the owner of Marianna Upholstery and was a vocational instructor at ACI teaching upholstery classes. She also worked for the Jackson County School board for many years as an educator before retiring. Margaret was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Marianna and was a devout christian. Margaret enjoyed needlework, sewing, painting, and random projects. She also loved to be outside in her garden, fishing, and hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. Potato salad was one of her specialties.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Pagels; parents, Comer and Ethel Smith; brother, James Smith; sister in-law, Emma Jane Smith; brother in-law, Jerry Glass; and son in-law, Randy Fox. 

Margaret is survived by her children, Allen E. Ward, II and wife, Laurie; Angela Ward Fox, Malissa Ann Fariss and husband, Michael; Tina Jo Ramey and husband, Mase; Walter “Bud” E. Pagels, II; her brother, Herbert Smith and wife, Hilda; sister, Carolyn S. Glass; grandchildren, Whitney Ward Burleson and husband, Jim, Connor Ward Oliver and husband, Cameron, Camile Brynn Fox Hayden and husband, Aaron, Lauren Christine Fox, Bailey Margaret Fox, Mary Grace Elizabeth Fox, Michael Ethan Fariss, Hannah Claire Fariss, Tise Daniel Ramey, Victoria Laura Ramey; great grandchildren, Mabry Olive Burleson, Wilder Orion Burleson, Emmalee Fay Oliver as well as many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Vince Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Cypress Cemetery with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.
