Leland Duncan “Dunc” Gammage, age 83, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, in Marianna, Florida. He was born in Arcadia, FL, on March 15, 1940, to the late Leland Gordon Gammage and Josephine (Hampton) Gammage. He was of Baptist faith.
Dunc lived in Arcadia for 66 years, before retiring to Marianna in 2006. In Arcadia, he served as a police officer, fire chief, firefighter and water plant operator before retiring. As a firefighter, Dunc rescued a baby from a burning home. Dunc was a cowboy and loved his time working as a rodeo clown at Arcadia All-Florida Championship Rodeo. He served as a previous director of the Arcadia Rodeo Association. He also served in the Florida National Guard. Dunc enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and working. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Hamp Gammage and parents.
Dunc is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Louise of Marianna; his children, Teresa “Tessie” Louise (Doug) Leath of Arcadia and Simeon “Sy” Duncan (Anita) Gammage of Kentucky; five grandchildren, Cheryl Blanchard, Nikolai Gammage, Gabriella Gammage, Garrett Leath and Owen Leath; a niece and nephews.
No local services are planned at this time. Interment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Arcadia, FL with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
