Larry Allen McGlaun, 88, formally of Richland (Webster County), GA, passed away on May 15, 2023, at Marianna Health and Rehab. He was born on December 21, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Stewart Allen McGlaun and Nola Vercel Akins McGlaun.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife, Patricia O'Connor McGlaun, who passed away on October 6, 1989, and his brother Stewart Akin McGlaun.
Larry is survived by his two daughters, Sally (Lewis) Baldwin of Richland, Georgia and Allison (Adam) Bigale of Marianna, Florida, several grandchildren, Allen Baldwin of Lumpkin, Georgia, Eric (Jessica) Baldwin of Richland, Georgia.
Larry attended Richland High School in Richland, Georgia and graduated from Georgia Military School in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He worked for the Gulf Oil Company for many years, in both Columbus and Rome, Georgia; Watson's Gulf Oil Station; McGlaun Farms; Fort Benning Horse Club; Western Horseman; and Marietta Lawn Care Company.
Horses were a huge part of Larry's life when his daughters became interested in riding and showing horses when they lived in Rome, Georgia. He and Pat traveled many miles and years as their daughters showed in open horse shows, money shows and 4-H Horse Shows. Larry was a National Judge of the Palomino Horse Breeders Association. He enjoyed traveling all over the United States as a Judge.
Larry and Pat were married on December 21, 1954, in Newnan, Georgia. They lived in Albany, Georgia, after they were first married and then moved to Columbus, Georgia. After he retired from Gulf Oil they moved to Richland and Webster County and remained in Webster County until after the death of his wife.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday morning, May 19, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at Harmony Cemetery, 701 Ponder St., in Richland, Georgia. The Reverend Dan Smith will officiate the service with Baldwin Funeral Home of Richland, GA directing. In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to the Lumpkin United Methodist Church, Building Fund.
