Karen Ann King

Karen Ann King, age 78, of Greenwood, FL, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 with her loving husband by her side.

Karen was born December 15, 1944 in the small town of Camden-on-Gauley, West Virginia. She was one of twelve siblings and was raised on the family farm. She met her husband, Curtis, and they married at the age of 19. Soon after, they moved to Hollywood, FL, before moving to Greenwood, FL, in 2005 to be closer to family. Karen loved her family dearly and was such a proud grandmother. She also loved to display her musical talents and was known as the “Little Girl with the big Guitar” on the television show, Friday Night Barn Dance. She was especially talented at guitar and piano and included her family in her at home karaoke nights. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Wesley and Sada Marie Phares and brothers, Ralph Edward Phares, Timothy Phares, David Noland Phares, Ronald Allen Phares, Tommy Phares and one sister, Faye Phares.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Curtis King; daughters, Cassie Hobbs and husband, Paul, Julie Arroyo and husband, Wilfredo all of Marianna; brothers, William McKinley Phares and wife, Rufina Louise, Virgil Ray Phares and wife, Teresa, Rodney Phares, Frank Phares, Sr. and wife, Georgia Lynn; grandchildren, Brandon Arroyo and wife, Miranda, Triston Arroyo and wife, Lesli, Dalton Arroyo and Justin Michael Rivas; great grandchildren, Milo Walker, Angel, Julian and Cassian Arroyo; special friends, Diana Murphy and Cheryl Norga as well as a host of nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be 2 P.M. Monday, August 21, 2023 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Reverend Jason Harris officiating. 

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation one hour prior to the service at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

Memorialization will be by cremation with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
