Elizabeth Braxton

Elizabeth “Lizzy” Pittman Braxton, age 89, of Marianna, FL passed away on July 4, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family. 

Elizabeth was born on March 30, 1934 in the Lovedale Community of Jackson County, Florida. She graduated from Greenwood High School and The University of West Florida. Lizzy was a member of The First Baptist Church of Altha, FL. She was married to Ernest Paul Braxton for 62 years. Paul was in the United States Navy and lived in numerous locations throughout the United States and the world until Paul retired with 20 years of service. 

Of all the things she did, she loved to read and study the Bible.  This love lead her to her career in teaching. Lizzy taught reading at the Washington / Holmes Technical School in Chipley, FL for 20 years. Never was there a time when she wasn’t smiling or laughing. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and her great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Ettie Ree Pittman; her son, Ernie; husband, Paul and brother, Milton.

Lizzy is survived by her son, Zachary Braxton; her grandchildren, Ethan and Taylor;  great grandchildren, Hilton, Melton, AudriAnn; and sister, Luree Hudson. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved dearly.

Graveside funeral services will be 3 P.M., Friday, July 7, 2023 in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with Deacon Jeff Barth officiating and Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing. 

The family will receive friends from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. Friday, July 7, 2023 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.
