Donovan "Donny" Hamilton Obituary

Donovan "Donny" Max Hamilton, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 2, 2025, at Southeast Health in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 72.

He was born November 16, 1952 to the late Collis Wesley and Elizabeth Betts Hamilton.  Donny was an alumnus of Florida A&M University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice, which propelled him into a long and respected career with the Florida Department of Corrections. After being born and raised in Quincy, Donny moved to Jackson County in the 1990s, where he eventually retired, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and service.

Donny was a man of faith and fellowship and was a member of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church. Through his difficult health issues, Donny looked to Jesus for healing and would witness his faith to others. He was a man with many hobbies and interests, including firearms, collecting coins and admiring antique cars, especially Corvettes. Donny was a die-hard Florida State football fan, a dedicated Dale Earnhardt NASCAR supporter, and he thoroughly enjoyed the simple pleasure of a good meal at San Marcos Mexican Restaurant with his son, Cole. He was also a proud American Patriot; Donny loved his country and believed in the principles of Faith, Family, and Freedom that built it.

Donny's life was one of purpose and joy. His laughter and kindness touched everyone he met. He was patient, fair, and honest. The memories he created with those he loved will be cherished and celebrated. He was a pillar in his community, a beacon of light to his friends, and the heart of his family. Donny's legacy will live on through the lives he impacted and the love he shared.

Donny was preceded in death by his loving parents, Collis and Elizabeth Hamilton; his sister, Elaine Parramore; his nephew, Jamie Blackburn; and his niece, Elizabeth Parramore Nix.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Kim; his proud sons, Dylan Hamilton and wife, Kim of Jacksonville, and Cole Hamilton and wife, Jordan of Marianna; his beloved daughter, Heather Hamilton of Tallahassee;  his brother, Charlie Hamilton and wife, Shelby of Tallahassee; his sister, Susan Fetzer and husband, Chuck of Blountstown; his caring sister-in-law, Kelli Standland of Marianna; and his adored grandchildren, Dalton Smith, Vance Smith, Dalton Baysinger (Angel), and Callie Hamilton. Donny was also a great-grandfather to Vincent Carrel, Aria Smith, and soon to be born, Beaudi Baysinger.; his nieces and nephews, Nikki, Andrea, and Landon; a host of great-nieces and nephews; and his two Yorkies, Chunk and Sassy, who were never far from his side.
