D.J. Deese

Dereck “D.J.” Jake Deese, age 39, of Cottondale, FL, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Jackson Hospital surrounded by family, and went peacefully in his sleep.

Dereck was born August 17, 1983, in Marianna, FL, and was a lifelong resident of Cottondale. He attended Cottondale High School and had many different careers throughout his life. Dereck had a great outlook on life and was always happy and joking with his family and friends. He made a huge impact on others’ lives that had the honor of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Horace Deese and Boyd and Kathleen Griffith.

Dereck is survived by his mother, Sharon Deese and father, Lonnie Deese, Sr; three siblings, Tabitha Kirkland of Savannah, GA, Dale Deese of Cottondale, FL and Daisy Lyon and husband, Gary of Cottondale, FL; grandmother, Clara Deese of Cottondale, FL; niece and nephews, Trinity and Hayden Kirkland, Gary Jr., Keith, Samuel, and Zachary Lyon; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

A celebration of life will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2023 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. 

Memorialization will be by cremation with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
