It is with heavy hearts that the family of Cindy Barber Yant, age 65, announces her passing on December 12, 2024, at Southeast Health in Dothan, AL. Cindy was born on June 23, 1959, in Donalsonville, GA, and was raised in Cottondale, FL. She was a proud graduate of Cottondale High School, Class of 1977.
Cindy was very proud of her career. She started working for Associates Financial, then held a position with the Juvenile Alternative Services Program for the State of Florida, where she was able to provide a positive impact and change many lives for the better. She later transitioned into a career as a Legal Assistant, a role she held for many years, working for highly respected Judges and local attorneys, continuing to make a difference in the lives of those around her.
A loving, funny, and generous woman, Cindy had a heart full of warmth and kindness. She found the most joy in cooking homemade meals from scratch, often using cherished family recipes. She also loved decorating for the holidays, upholding family traditions and hosting social gatherings, where her vibrant spirit and true southern hospitality always shone through. Christmas and Easter were her favorite holidays, and she looked forward to attending the Barber Family Reunion each spring.
She treasured her three pets dearly - Gabby, Juno, and Socks. Cindy cherished her friendships and nothing made her heart happier than spending time or sharing conversations with her loyal friends and neighbor.
In 1984, Cindy married her beloved husband, Scott Yant, and they spent over 40 years building a life together. Throughout their marriage, they enjoyed going on many trips together, especially their frequent road trips to visit family in Jacksonville and Green Cove Springs, FL, as well as their yearly travels to Pennsylvania to visit Scott’s extended family.
Cindy was a dedicated and loving mother who cherished every moment spent with her daughter, Amanda. She took the utmost pride in supporting her through many childhood activities; including pageants, competitive dance, and cheerleading. After Amanda left home to go to college in Tallahassee and then move to Jacksonville, FL, Cindy was always quick to get on the road to visit her. They loved spending time together visiting antique shops, eating at local cafes, and sharing quality time creating moments together on their weekend travels — moments that Cindy held dear.
Cindy was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marianna, where she found strength and fellowship throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Coy and Estelle Barber; her maternal grandparents, Raymond Vernon Holt and Perry Lee Skinner; her parents, Hurston Harold (Hook) and Mary Annette Barber; as well as several loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is survived by her loving husband, Scott Yant; her devoted daughter, Amanda Yant (Barry) of Jacksonville, FL; her brother, Greg Barber Sr., of Alford, FL; her nephews, Greg Barber (Rita), Dusty Barber (Dayna), John Barber (Aeryole), and Jarrett Barber of Jackson County, FL; her cousins, Sandra Avant (Rodney) of Tallahassee, FL and Kim Joyner (Steve) of Jacksonville, FL; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, and a great-nephew. Cindy also leaves behind many close friends that she loved spending holidays and vacations with.
