Charles Wayne Espey, Jr.

Charles Wayne Espey Jr., "Wayne", age 76, of Marianna, FL went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Marianna Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Wayne was born on October 17, 1947 in Albertville, AL to the late Mary Elizabeth “Libby” and Charles W. Espey, Sr. The family moved to Niceville, FL where he became a licensed and ordained evangelical minister, then completed college at Okaloosa-Walton Junior College. Following this, Wayne went on to join the military, enlisting in the Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant in 1974, and was stationed with the 1st Armored Division’s Divisional Artillery at Pinder Barracks in Zirndorf, Germany. After his 4 years was complete, Wayne left and returned back to Niceville, FL, eventually moving to Chipley, FL where he met and married his wife of 39 years. Together, they moved to Marianna, FL where they called home for the remainder of his days. Wayne kept himself busy with a career as a computer technician with CRT Computers, and later as the owner/operator of his own computer business, his true passion was helping others. A licensed Amateur “Ham” Radio operator for the majority of his life, he volunteered with the Salvation Army, Red Cross, and local, state, and federal levels of the Emergency Management, acting as both shelter manager and radio operator during numerous hurricanes and other disasters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Debra Elizabeth Espey; and his sister-in-law, Virginia Espey.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Deborah Espey; his son, Charles Wayne Espey, III; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Syfrett;  granddaughter, Elizabeth Rowan Syfrett-Espey of Marianna, FL; brother, Thomas “Tommy” Edward Espey of Tenino, WA; nieces and nephew, Elizabeth “Eve” Brabham, Sandra Kay Espey and Thomas “TJ” Edward Espey, Jr.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Memorialization will be by cremation with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home in chargeof arrangements.
