Charles Gary Sorenson

Charles “Gary” Sorenson, age 88, of Marianna, FL, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 7, 2023 while surrounded by his family. Gary was born on October 9, 1934 to the late Arthur and Alma Sorenson in Yakima, Washington. 

Gary moved with his family to Portland, Oregon, as a child.  There he met his wife, Molly, while attending Franklin High School. They raised their family in Portland, with all four of their children and four of six grandchildren also graduating from the same high school. Gary worked as a painting contractor in Portland until his retirement and was a very hands-on father, involved in all of his four childrens’ various activities. Gary and Molly loved spending time camping in their motorhome in the Pacific Northwest with family and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Molly Sorenson; his parents, and his siblings, Arthur Sorenson, Bea Strensrud and James Sorenson.

He is survived by his children, Edd Sorenson (Stacy) of Marianna, FL, Leif Sorenson (Jennifer) of Gresham, OR, Beth Trapp of Gresham, OR, Pamela Winters (Robert) of Milwaukie, OR; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, as well as his special dog, Pita.

A celebration of life service will be 2 P.M. Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Blue Springs Recreation Area with Marianna Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation following the service.
