Brent Hoelzer, age 69, was born September 26, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois and went home to Jesus on June 4, 2026 in Greenwood, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Beverlee Hoelzer; and brother-in-law, Denny Johnson.
Brent is survived by Lucy Hoelzer, his ex-wife, best friend and care giver; one brother, Bruce (Joyce) Hoelzer; one sister, Belinda Johnson; one stepson; two step grandchildren, Anna Rhede Rogers and Joshua Rogers as well as three nieces and one nephew.
Brent graduated from high school in Jacksonville, Florida and became a commercial diver which he loved and talked about often. Anytime someone mentioned the name of a river he would say “I dove that river”.
He then continued his education and received his BS in Ocean Engineering from FAU in Boca Raton, Florida. Durning his time there, he was selected to design a human powered submarine to be used in the first ever human powered submarine races. Brent was so very proud to say his sub took third place, first and second place was the U.S. Navy and MIT. It was quite an accomplishment and his design is displayed at FAU. He was recruited by Department of Defense in Panama City Beach, Florida and worked for them until 2002.
Brent was a kindhearted man who would give anyone the shirt off his back if it would help them. He loved the Beach Boys music and spoke often of his surfing days at Jacksonville Beach.
He will be truly missed by those who loved him. May the Lord bless him and allow him to be by a peaceful river beyond Brent’s imagination where he can sit and talk to Jesus.
A celebration of life will be 1:00 P.M., Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Brent's home, 4058 Bryan St. Greenwood, FL 32443.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Lambe family at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.
