Barbara Ann Hayes was born on April 1, 1933 and passed away on December 23, 2024. She was known as Barbie, Barb, Babs, Mom and Nana and she was dearly loved by all that knew her and made an impression on all that met her. She was born in Shellington, PA and lived most of her adult life in Virginia. She graduated from business school and worked for and retired from the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. where she was a secretary in the Attorney General’s office.
Barb loved to watch game shows and old movies, including westerns. She thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo and went to the Senior Center three times a week to try her luck. She was a trained singer and loved singing in the choir while her sister played the organ. Barb loved to travel with her friends and was always up for any adventure.
Barb had a smile that made her eyes twinkle and a tender heart that made tears flow easily. She loved her family fiercely and without fail and was always someone you could count on. She lived with and endured the torment of Alzheimer’s until it took her away from us. There is relief and joy in knowing that a new soprano has joined the Angel choir and she is no longer in pain and darkness, but the reality is that she will be missed by many.
She leaves a son, Michael Hayes and daughter-in-law, Laura Hayes; six grandchildren, Lee Hayes and granddaughter-in-law, Lauren Hayes, Heather Barr and grandson-in-law, Carl Barr, Melissa Patterson and grandson-in-law, Steve Patterson, Matthew Murphy and granddaughter-in-law, Alexis Murphy, Mark Murphy and Emily Hayes. She also leaves nine great grandchildren, Paige Hayes, Paisley Hayes, Layla Barr, Logan Murphy, Carl Barr III, Jaxon Barr, Donovan James Murphy, Paityn Hayes and Penelope Hayes. Always in our hearts.
A celebration of her life will be at a later date. Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
