Michael Wayne Harris

Michael Wayne Harris, 71, of Alford, FL, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 4, 2018.  Mike was born on January 23, 1947, in Panama City, FL, to John William "Bill" Harris, Sr. and Pauline (Vickery) Harris.  Mike spent his early childhood in the Panama City area, before moving to Orlando as a young man. While in Orlando, Mike would meet and marry his beloved wife of 50 years, Carolyn (Clouse) Harris.

Over the years, Mike and Carolyn split time between Orlando and Panama City, before returning permanently to the Panama City area in 1989.  During much of his life, Mike was a general contractor and craftsman. Mike’s beautiful homes and woodwork are still cherished to this day, by the many who were blessed by his skilled eyes and hands.  In 1996, Mike founded Sea Shutters, Incorporated, and would be its visionary and president until his retirement in 2016.

As a young man, Mike was an amateur  jai-alai athlete in the Orlando area.  He was a lifelong avid hunter and fisherman, who absolutely enjoyed spending time in the woods or on his boat - in lakes, rivers, and seas.  He was a committed husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather; his love for his family was only surpassed by his love for his Savior. Mike became a Christian in his late 20s, and he never stopped pursuing his faith in Jesus.  He is now rejoicing with his beloved Savior, experiencing the great hope that had been set before him while in this life.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents:  John William "Bill" Harris, Sr. and Pauline (Vickery) Harris; and four brothers:  John William Harris, Jr., Dan Harris, Tommy Jan Harris, and Jerry Harris.

Mike is survived by his wife, Carolyn; and their four children: Kelly Preston, of Marianna, Jared Harris, of Orlando, Reed Harris, of Orlando, and Holly Harris, of Panama City; eight grandchildren: Cole, Rhiannon, Gideon, Rylon, Evelyn, Emmy, Carter, and Madeline; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.
