Carl W. Sullivan

Carl Walter Sullivan, 86, of Marianna, Florida passed from this life to his eternal home on Saturday, March 23, 2024 in Marianna after a long battle with failing health.

Carl was born January 22, 1938 to Walter and Mattie Sullivan.  He graduated from Marianna High School in 1955 and then served his country in the United States Navy for four years before returning home to Marianna. Shortly after, he began a decades-long career at Lambe’s Welding and Supply where he worked for 58 years until his retirement in 2019.

Known widely in his local community, Carl wore many hats over the years through his employment and volunteer work. He worked for a time at Andrews Radiator and Grocery as well as the Roller Rink.  He was a volunteer fireman with Marianna Fire Department, a member of the Jackson County Conservation Club, and the Elks Lodge 1516 where he held local, State, and District Offices. While Carl enjoyed all the hats he wore, the most special was that of a husband of 62 years to his loving and completely devoted wife, Margurite, and father to his son, Steven.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law, Stella and Chester Stokes; siblings, Eunice Sullivan, Raymond Sullivan, David Sullivan and Gary (Cookie) Sullivan.  He was also preceded in death by his fishing partners, Henry Stephens and Rudolph Swearingen.

Survivors include his wife, Margurite (Margaret) Sullivan; son, Steven (Syrup) Sullivan; sister, Betty Broome and husband, Johnny; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends including special friends, Doyle and Mamie Green.

Services for Carl Sullivan will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Johnson and Reverend Johnny Broome officiating the service. 

Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Lipford Cemetery in Marianna immediately following the service.
