George Willard Melvin

U.S. Veteran

Mr. George Willard Melvin age 69 of Grand Ridge passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012 at his home.

He was born on November 21, 1942 in Washington County to the late Westley and Roxie Kent Melvin and spent his lifetime in Jackson County. He served his country in the U. S. Army during Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion Post of Alford. After giving many years of service Mr. Melvin retired from the Jackson County Board of Commissioners as the Superintendent of Maintenance. He was best known for being able to fix most anything and never hesitated to help someone in need. One of his most favorite past times was fishing.

Mr. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and his three sister, Merle Chance, Doylene Daniels and Lorrine Melvin.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Melvin of Grand Ridge, FL, his son Greg Melvin and his wife Cathy of Alford, two daughters; Tammy Singleton and her husband Mike of Alford and Debbie Ingram and her husband Benny of Rocky Creek, two step sons; Tony Tye and his wife Beth and Tullis Tye and wife Missy both of Grand Ridge, three brothers; James Melvin and his wife Nancy of Alford, Glenn Melvin and his wife Cheryl of Longwood, FL, and Tommy Melvin and his wife Donna of Arizona, four sisters; Edna Daniels, Gladys Branning, Brenda Isler and her husband Bob all of Alford and Diane Wade and her husband Mark of Ocala, FL, the mother of his children, Neoma Kent Finch her husband Kenneth of Wausau, FL and eleven grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Melvin will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, August 16, 2012 from the graveside in Kent Cemetery with Rev. Jeffery DuBose officiating. Military honrs will be by American Legion Sneads Post #241.

A time of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from 5PM to 7PM in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Covenant Hospice at 4215 Kelson Avenue, Ste. E, Marianna, FL 32446
